BIOGRAHY OF MR. HENRY KEHINDE OLAYEMI
Early Life:
Mr. Henry Kehinde Olayemi was born on the 11th of March 1941 in Aramoko Ekiti, Nigeria to the Family of Late Venerable Joseph Bamgboye and Mrs. Rebecca Ebeloku Olayemi during a time when his Father was on Missions as a clergy at St Philips Anglican Church, Aramoko, Ekiti. He was born into the family as one of a pair of twins i.e. Henry Kehinde & Gordon Taiye Olayemi. His parents Ven & Mrs. J.B. Olayemi were blessed with 10 Children (5 Boys and 5 Girls).
In 1943, his parents moved to serve at St Andrew’s (Cathedral) Anglican Church, OWO. This is where he started his elementary education at St Andrew’s Primary School in 1947
Personal Life
Mr. Henry Kehinde hails from Ora-Igbomina Osun State, from the Royal family bearing title Asa-Oni of Ora; His father did not want to participate in royal and cultural rights and thereby relinquished the title as Oba Asa-Oni (King) of Ora Igbomina Land while continuing with his Clergy duties as an Anglican Priest. The Male Children including Henry Kehinde also relinquished the Asa-Oni title; however, the noble of royalty; still resides in the Olayemi family till date and this is Noteworthy in the history archives of Owo-Ola-Sehinde and Olajumoke Family.
Career
Henry Kehinde Olayemi studied at Imade College Owo Between 1957 – 1961 and on graduation also proceeded to do some professional examinations and certification. He started his job career in Ibadan.
in 1966 he Joined the Federal Civil Service Commission and began his career at the Nigeria Customs and Excise till he was transferred to the Federal Ministry of Transport where he retired after 35 years of pensionable service in 2001.
Somewhere in between his graduation from College and Joining the CivilService, he worked as Inventory Accounts officer at Kingsway Retail Stores in Lagos,
He was also a Trained Member with the Crown Agents London, United Kingdom where he gained experience as a Procurement facilitator in international Development.
Through his experience at The Crown Agents, he occasionally facilitates training and Lecture sessions to broaden knowledge and skills in Materials Handling Management essentials to ASCON OIL employees.
Service to God
As a dedicated Anglican he loved spending time at church. Mr. Henry enjoyed fellowship, participating in special projects and charitable activities. He has served in the Church Choir since he was a child. He loved choral music and singing. When traveling on business during his career, he would always find Anglican churches where he could participate in the choir. He was a staunch member of BAHM Church Choir i.e. Bishop Adelakun Howells Memorial Anglican Church, Lagos.
He met his lovely wife – Olajumoke in the Church Choir where she was also participating as a soprano chorister and occasional soloist, Henry and Olajumoke got married and continued the Olayemi family legacy by raising their children with the same passion for music and dedication to the church.
Mr. Henry Kehinde barely missed Choir practices, he has won so many awards due to his incredible baritone vocals, which is uniquely known and admired by all.
He introduced his children to Church Music and the skills for Church Backend Consulting by living as an example, serving God in his best capacity at the Chancel level as a chorister and one time at the Executive level as a member of the Parish Council, his association – the A.C.F (Anglican Christian Fellowship), and the Elderly Fellowship. He did all his service to God with the most admirable consistency and diligence.
His participation in the Choir is a testament to his love for Classical and Choral music.
His dedication to A.C.F meetings showed the meaning of commitment to a good cause.
Mr. Henry Kehinde loved the younger generation and showed them how to achieve anything they put their minds to; he encouraged them to make their life choices without limitations.
He Believed in people but also advises on the consequences of making wrong decisions.
He passed on to Glory on March 10, 2024.
He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Olajumoke Olayemi, Children and Grandchildren.
